Today is the last day of the year and it is the last year of the decade! It is a powerful time energetically to carve out some personal time for reflection.
Taking this time to search for insight and acknowledge lessons learned will benefit you for days, even years, to come.
Cultivating mindfulness and self-awareness is a practice. Taking time out for contemplation at New Year’s may seem cliche, but don’t overlook the importance and value of harnessing the energy at this time of year to enhance and embrace your life’s journey. Here’s how:
Step 1 ~ Self-Reflection: “Know Thyself” is an old adage with profound implications. Life experiences deepen your understanding of yourself and your place in the world. Take some time today before the clock turns twelve to dive into 2019… and beyond. Pull out your journal and write about the lessons you learned this year and this decade. What were your joys and what were your frustrations? How did you move through these and who were you being in the midst of them? Taking a deeper look into your own nature can reveal insights into how you may want to move forward by identifying old patterns or habits that no longer serve you and are better left behind.
If you are honest about the part you played in creating your reality, then you can focus on what worked in the past and bring that with you. Self-reflection is more than just knowing yourself, it is about embracing yourself and revealing your authentic nature. It is recognizing your weaknesses but not being paralyzed by them. It is about honoring and recognizing your strengths and gifts, embracing those, and bringing them more forward in the coming days by applying intention and focus.
When you know thyself, acceptance drifts in, not just of yourself, but also others as you begin to see that they too are on an epic life journey and doing their best to make their way in this wild and crazy world!
Step 2 ~ Energy Clearing: Out with the old, in with the new… energy. We are at the end of a nine-year cycle. Nine is the number for completion. Today it is energetically imperative that we clear the air – and nooks and crannies – of our physical space to release any old “stuff” that may be lurking around draining or blocking the postive flow of energy.
The perfect way to accomplish this is to do a space clearing of your home, office, car and your personal temple (your body!) On the first of the year, we want to harness the energy of the new. To do that, we must clear and create space for the new to come in by releasing the old.
House/Office Clearing: Start at your front door and go counter-clockwise around your space with sage and a feather to waft the smoke. Open all the windows and doors to allow the old energy to be dispersed and leave. Make sure to go into all rooms, closets and cabinets. Complete the process by going back through the house clockwise, closing everything back up. If you are in a warmer climate, it is okay to leave the windows and doors open.

- Frankincense essential oil
- Juniper essential oil
- Palo Santo essential oil
- Lemon Essential Oil
- Optional: Palmarosa and Lemongrass Essential Oil
- Lavender buds
- Sea Salt

Chakra Clearing: It is the perfect time to cleanse your chakras. Release old resentments, stories or imprints that are stuck to your energy field during times of trauma or struggle. Let the past go. Clear the way to welcome the new energies you are wanting to manifest and maintain in the new year. Step 3 ~ Intentional Gratitude: What you focus on manifests! The breath is the greatest tool for healing and to help remind you to be present in the here and now. With the passing of the great spiritual teacher Ram Dass this past week, it is the perfect time to honor and memorialize his teaching by embracing it: Be. Here. Now.
When you pause to take a breath, it brings you back into the present. In the present, there is an eternal list of things to be grateful for. Fears fade and lose their power because they are not real in the moment, they are just an idea. Replace them with gratitude for what is. Your health, your job, your child, your garden, your _____.
Begin a gratitude list today. Rather than a bucket list, write down what you already have accomplished this decade. This cultivation and vibration of gratitude is the attracting point for manifestation. Begin to set your intentions for the year, for the decade, by writing as if they already happened and then work backwards to discover the steps to take today to create them.
In Review: Take the time today to dive deep, clear out old energy and set intentions to manifest the life you want to be living!
In the first step of closing out the old, it is important to go within to connect with the authentic self. It is in this reflective stillness that your answers lie. Here you can gather information and insights as inner truths are revealed. Taking these with you, it is time to clear out the old ways and patterns to create space for the new. Once this clearing occurs, utilize your breath and intention to focus on gratitude and creating the life you want to be living.
